Why is it called electric? The Greeks first discovered electricity about 3000 years ago. Its name came from the word "elektron", which means amber. Amber is the yellow, fossilised rock you find in tree sap. The Greeks found that if they rubbed amber against wool, lightweight objects (such as straw or feathers) would stick to it.

Methods, beliefs, ideas, etc. that are eclectic combine whatever seem the best or most useful things from many different areas or systems, rather than following a single system: an eclectic style/approach. an eclectic taste in literature.

"Eclectic" is generally considered a positive word. It is used to describe a person or thing that is diverse and broad in their tastes, interests, or sources of inspiration.
